A friend of mine wishes to buy a 250 GB USB external hard drive.

Anyway, he requirements to know if he can put a bootable partition for using Linux via the unmarked external harddrive. Of course, the BIOS has already be configured to boot from external USB pendrive first. But can this device be detected as an HDD by the BIOS allowing booting?
So, can it be done?

It's no different than a floppy, CD or Hard Drive. Your economically on your way if you already know how to setup the bios.
