Formatting the C Drive.?

If one formats their C drive, does the computer start up surrounded by DOS, thus allowing you to re-install windows via DOS? Asking because i want to re-install XP.

No. If you format the C drive everything on that drive is gone.



Windows doesn't sit on DOS anymore either.



If you obligation to reinstall XP, just insert the CD-ROM and consequently reboot.
Hi. Boot from the CD and it will allow you to format if you want to. All files will be lost so backup what you want to keep hold of.
first of all if u start up ur PC into window XP and u want to format the C drive it will tell u that: Windows can't format that drive this is cuz ur OS is running on this HDD so u own 2 boot ur PC from other media, such a compact disc, USB flash drive, Floppy drive, Zip, jazz or another HDD so the OS isn't started form the HDD u want to format, u can simply put the Windows XP CD on the tray and reboot the workstation and tell the computer to boot from the cd drive when it asks u to, that course u can format & install the whole OS . . .
1. Enter the bios by rebooting and pressing F2. Look for the instruct of start-up ... A, drive C, CD

2. In bios tuning the order of boot so the first to start is the compact disc. Save the changes when closing the bios [read the instruction on your bios screen]

3. Put your XP disc into the domestic device.

NB . only a honest XP disc will reinstall the program and format. You will need the disc's unusual registration number.

4. Close down the machine.

5. Re-boot. Computer will re-boot from disc drive and a new XP program will install. It will also reformat the C drive.
