dvd burning?

Good evening.

today I bought an LG 18x super multi dvd rewriter. along near the writer came Power Producer and Nero. I tried making a dvd from a dvd movie i downloaded online, near Power producer but it didnt work. i played it in my dvd player and the dummy didnt fit to tv scale and have a rippled effect over the movie. i then tried to build another dvd from a dvd rip on my comp with nero and after the encoding stage, i get an error saying that we didnt own the right disk. the disks i bought are dvd+r 4.7 gb. the box and store salesman suggested this type of disk. so my question to you is, is in that anything i need to do to the dvd files past i try to make a dvd. my dvd rips are mpegs. am i supposed to convert them? i am latest to this and dont know how to make a dvd. any backing would be appreciated.

dvd burning?

first of all that salesman is a idiot....if you want to burn dvd's and play them on a dvd player they own to be dvd-r's. As far as that it all depends on what format the files are within, I am not sure by what you have typed if you are doing it the correct passageway. But defenately one of your problems is the dvd+r. If you want to copy other dvd's a good software program is dvdfab...works pretty obedient except for crappy new sony's unusual movies.....anyway hope this helped a lil bit
