dvd burner does not burn?

i enjoy medion 8084xl pc. it come with a pioneer dvd burner and nero (6 i think). i hade to reinstall xp at one point a while ago. the discs that come with the workstation would not work, i got replacements and they did not work any so i used a friends xp disc for hp and that worked fine. the burner worked before reinstalling xp but not after. both pioneer and medion are no help out. i downloaded all updates but still no luck. i am pretty sure its software and not hardware because when you try to burn something, the software will not recocnise the drive as a burner. someone told me that there is an issue between nero and pioneer and nero will not work beside pioneer drives but as i said it did work before the reinstall of xp. can anyone enlighten me if they have hear of this problem and if i buy a new/different drive, will it work.

I had problems beside Nero, and finally abandoned it for Roxio, a much simpler software to use, and I love it. Try Easy Media Creator 9.
