I recommend you not to scrabble for free partition inspector. It will be better for you to purchase Partition Magic or Disk Director Suite. I prefer Disk Director. Doing a fresh install of Win XP Pro, I need to format the first drive and it offered a 'Quick Format' or something close to regular formatting. I used regular and it has taken an hour and twenty minutes. Is nearby any problem with using the Quick Format? What it is the difference, excluding the time consumed?

Formatting a mac tricky drive for use contained by a notebook?
I not long upgraded my hard drive surrounded by my macbook and I want to take the inventive 60gb drive and put it in one of my pc's as a lower drive. I hooked everything up and it recognized the drive, but it didn't donate it a drive letter or sticky label. I can't see the drive in my computer, but I can see it within other programs like Partition artifice, etc. I tried to use partition sleight of hand to convert the drive to ntfs, but it wouldn't do it. Came up with error 4? I hold no clue. Any ideas??

I assume the procedure is to fdisk before format, and fdisk display should show you the thorny drive capacity. If it shows just 2 GB, see if that is the "Primary Partition". If it is consequently

Somewhere along the course to starting up your computer, it should say something similar to, "Press any key to boot from CD" if you don't do anything the comp will boot customarily so make sure you push a button! It should shift through a couple blue screens. Follow the on-screen directions and delete the separator on your HD and make a investigational one. Say ok to the next few screen and it should start formating your HD.

To be gala the store didn't attempt to sell me anything. The guy did suggest that it be probable that I had a 2x card & suggested trying ebay or similar for a used card. So he wasn't on the "you'll involve a new computer" routine. Trouble is I can't find the booklets for adjectives the components to see what it's fitted with. The workstation was built by a friend using components from Dabs so it could own anything in it! All I do know for sure is it's get a Pentium III 866Mhz processor.

I've since changed my not easy drive. But I have a toshiba 40 Gig drive contained by plastic wrap, that I would like to repair and turn it into an 2.5 external drive.
So how can repair the desperate sector on the drive?

First custom built computer is constantly restarting.?
I a moment ago build my first computer. For some reason it keep on restarting. When I turn it on I get a message that describe me to choose a mode(safe mode, normal mode, etc...) to start surrounded by b/c XP couldn't start. So I choose normal mode (it doesn't issue which mode I choose), then I grasp the little blue bar that moves below the Windows XP logo, which moves about 3/4 the opening, and goes to the blue peak of death for smaller amount than a second and restarts by itself. Then I get that peak to choose a mode again. I actually never get the computer to turn on. To install Windows XP, I put the new rugged drive into my old computer. If the specs of my computer are relevant please ask.

I am running Windows XP. Recently i defragmented my c:/ drive. I could finish defragmenting my files but it stated that some files couldnt be defragmented. However, when i try to estimation the files there be no files being shown.
I have researched and even run " chkdsk c: /f " but however the problem still exists.
What should i do?
I had even defragmented surrounded by for more than 10 times and restarted it for more than 3 times but however the problem still exists.

I hold a windows XP and my web adapter deosn't show up in the Device checker list. Yet, i can still connet to dial-up internet, but not to the large speed internet. How can i make the make friends adapter show up on the list?

It's a Fibre Channel drive, not typically for desktops and are used primarily in servers and enterprise height storage systems. It requires a 40 pin SCA cable to connect it and would also require a fibre concentrate host bus adapter too. The adapters alone cost from multiple hundreds of dollars to several thousand. You'd be better of junking it and getting a regular SATA or PATA drive instead.

It's a Fibre Channel drive, not typically for desktops and are used primarily in servers and enterprise height storage systems. It requires a 40 pin SCA cable to connect it and would also require a fibre concentrate host bus adapter too. The adapters alone cost from multiple hundreds of dollars to several thousand. You'd be better of junking it and getting a regular SATA or PATA drive instead.

I enjoy a brother fax machine and when I tried to distribute a fax the telephone number key do not work . I also tried to press hook /keys nothing works. I looked underneath the cover on the backside of the key and I wonder if it needs to be cleaned . relieve I need to distribute my fax !!!

I hold two hard drives contained by my computer. One is a 40gig and the other is 20 gig. If I revision my primary hard drive (40 gig) to NTFS, do I enjoy to change the other drive as economically? Or should I change them adjectives?

I am using a work laptop on which i have restricted access. so i couldnt connect my hard disk.i connected once, i could use my notes but nex ttime it failed.
Upon reques to the administrator, i get full access on my dell latitude D 620.
I uninstalled All usb ports from System- Device Manager and rebooted. I connected my hard disk surrounded by every USB Port but i still get error , error installing USB Mass Stoage Hard Wared May not work properly.
This USB External HDD have worked before on my antiquated Dell dim 3000. So i am not sure what the problem is now
I cant format HD fairly i dont want to. Is there any other work around

I be in the middle of my computer hobby when much to my dismay the audio dropped. I wasn't fiddling with wires or touching anything but the Keyboard and mouse. I tried unplugging them and replugging them within but that didn't seem to work. The volume is turned up and they construct a staticy noise when i rub the plug against the hole. I have done this once before and come back but we have to mess around with them and other speakers. Does anyone know what I can do?

True, the USB port may be doomed to failure, but you can test that by plugging the USB HDD into one of the USB ports on the fund of the computer; since these are attached directly to the mainboard, they are less promising to be bad. The leading thing you'll want to check to acquire your USB HDD to work is Device Manager.

Check for any devices that own a yellow interview mark by them; if they do, right-click the device, click "Update driver", and permit it search for them automatically.
I occasionally enjoy to do this for my new USB drives, and they pause up working just fine after that. And, no, you don't own to format a USB HDD as NTFS or any of that other mess... it's not a hard drive surrounded by the traditional sense as it has no moving parts.

It could be that there is no divider on the drive. If its new and you enjoy no data on it, use a software such as wall magic to create a wall on it. if you are going to use it in window, make sure you create an NTFS fence, after you do that, your computer will see it.

External Hard drive?
I hold an external hard drive beside some very noteworthy files on it. Today I plugged it in and it wasnt reading on none of my two PCs and as a rule at all times it does. When I did receive it to read it shows that nothings on it and its 100% Space Free when in sincerity there is files on it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. I hold a windows XP system the external knotty drive has 160 GB. Right in a minute I got it to show up as an god but it still shows there is nil on it. When I know files are on it.. Please Help. Show I format it again??

External Hard Drive Problem?
I enjoy a 200GB Pikaone external hard drive. It used to work fine until just this minute. Now whenever I plug it into a USB port (I have tried this on 3 computers very soon, and still get equal result) and attempt to open/explore the drive (which I have greatly of data stored on it), after clicking it I attain a message saying something similar to this drive has not be formatted yet, do you want to format it?
So, Now I can't access the facts I have on my external frozen drive, and can't use it unless I completly wipe all the notes from it, which I'm not willing to do.
Any thinking on what I can do to fix this?
Also, any ideas on how it could own got into this state contained by the first place?
Any help will be drastically much appreciated.

I enjoy got a problem next to my external hard disk. When I plug it within to the USB, the device is recognised, but before the system read the files and show the hard disk as a storage device surrounded by "My Computer", it comes up with an error message, axiom that "hardware may have problems" etc (I tried it within 3 computers so far, and the above message appeared on one of them). I suspect that the problem occured when I had a "critical system error", that resulted surrounded by my computer to shut down instantly, and while my hard disk be connected and operating - playing music - (the hard disk be working properly until I got this error -when I rebooted my system the disk be not working so I presume something such as disk corruption happen then -).
Any concept what the problem could be and how to solve it? Is it the disk or could be a disk case connectivity breakdown?
I would like first to retrieve adjectives my files from the disk, and secondly to get it work again!

Ok, I necessitate to know how to make it compatible next to apple and windows . I can put stuff from my PC onto the external thorny drive, and I can place stuff onto my friends apple. But I can't copy stuff from his computer to my hard drive. It say cannot modify this unit or something. Another friend said I have to change the strong drive to MS DOS or to FAT32...the only problem is...I cant, or, dont know how. I tried doing disk managment, indemnity, all that, but one and only NTFS is there. How do I fix this? What do I involve to do to be able to switch files from mac to laptop?

External Hard Drive generate static electricity?
Should I be concerned if I win a small static shock every time I have my appendage near my external rugged drive? Its a LaCie external hard drive connected by USB and powered by its own separate cord hooked up to my surge protector. I enjoy it sitting on my desk next to my tower. I receive a shock whenever I reach over to grasp a pen from the nearby pencil/pen cup.
If it turns out there's nought to worry just about, I'll just move the pencil/pen cup so I don't get hold of shocked anymore XD

I don't dream up static electricity is to blame here unless you have runner under you and you are rubbing your foot on the carpet like mad.

Let's say you can install Linux or window or even DOS on that external drive, if you can boot to the drive from PC A, then booting next to PC B shouldn't be a problem.
If your intention isn't booting from the external, then you don't have need of an OS on it, just profile conversion for reading between different formats. Or use a standard format, like jpg, or png, or bmp, or txt.

I am man told now by my XPSP2 laptop that my 232GB External Hard Drive have no free space left to copy into. Yet it also detects nearly 100GB free, and in attendance is 132GB of space currently being used. Surely this can't be put down to purely partition table. What's going on? What can I do to fix this?

External DVDRW not burning, but reading!?!?!?!!?
I own bought a Asus external DVDRW, well it's an internal but it is within one of those drive cases made by Q-Tec. I have installed the satchel driver and I have also the most up-to-date drivers for the DVDRW. I have reinstalled, cleaned the lens, tried it on other PCs and laptops, tried frequent kinds of CD-R and DVD-R/+R, everything possible and it does not burn, it only just reads. It does start to burn but later it stops suddenly and I have to switch the drive sour. And yes it does say DVDRW on it and the PC regognises it as this beside or without drivers. What's going wrong? If it help I am using XP.

When I insert a disc or DVD into my drive, the name of the CD/DVD will not appear. When I jump into the drive, the contents are there. What is cause this, and how can it be resolved?

I mull over you are talking something like upgrading your BIOS to a newer version, which is call "flashing" your BIOS.

I enjoy read other responses about temperature on the Pentium D, but I would prefer getting answers to my specific questions to my system, so here go:
I recently built a brand new system including a Pentium D 820 on an nForce 570 motherboard, with a CoolerMaster CPU devotee (see http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as... and http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as... ). They are all contained by a Raidmax Smilidon case (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as... ) near 5 fans (4x80mm + 1x120mm).
However, I am becoming worried roughly the temp readings. While idle, it will drop down to around 45C, but when I get both cores running at 100%, it jump up to a max of 56C. As soon as I lessen the load, though, it drops straight rear legs down. Now, I realize that the Artic Silver 5 thermalpaste I used hasn't fully cured (baked), but should I be worried about these temps? What should I do?

No problems, these processors are undamaging up to 65 degrees, so nil to worry nearly in your baggage. These processors just run hot, not much you can do just about it.
There is nothing to verbs. My temp touches even 65C sometimes.

what is the difference between that and this:

The A1 is the newer revision of the AR. From what I can tell, the lone change is that there's a fix within the A1 because of a problem with overclocking Intel Quad Core CPU's contained by excess of 1300MHz FSB on the AR.
If you have a Quad core CPU and are trying to overclock it, they'll replace your AR near an A1 at no charge.

You could try three things.
1. Boot on out of danger mode
2. Load bios default (press del at boot-up)
3. Check cable and power nouns to hard drive
If adjectives these fails, your Operating system is probably corrupted (could be a virus) . If you hold XP, load the installation compact disc and choose repair XP. You may have to reactivate your software after you do this. If it still doesn't work, your complex drive is kaput and needs to be replaced.
first check bios setup properly. Then reboot the system in a minute check it.
open your computer and product sure the cable to the hard drive is plugged contained by tightly.On both the drive and mother board..good luck

Did something happen to the domestic device since it last worked?
Did you move it?
You involve to check all of the devices and trademark sure they are all properly seated.
A gadget will not properly boot up if memory, CPU, Hard drive, video card, power connections were jostle - I have have problems like this but be able to resolve by making sure the parts be seated correctly.
If you are not familiar beside all of the internal parts it looks close to you need to bring familiar.
Learn around them slowly a little bit at a time. The toughest is the motherboard (mainboard also).
You might want to check out a book at the library on Hardware parts of the PC.
